Hi,

Does anybody know whether blue rams change colour at night time? This morning I was feeding my fish and noticed that my female ram was showing slightly paler colours on the body, but there was a distinct dark bar down the lateral line of the fish. The rest of her colours were good, nice bright red in the pelvic & dorsal fins, tail nice and sparkly. She was not off her food, eating heartily and giving the male a run for his money. However, this evening she is back to her usual self. Nice bright colours all over.

Can anybody take any guesses as to what might have caused this?

Thanks in advance :good:

I dont think you have anything to worry about.

They can change their colors very quickly, and it is kind of hard to see what causes them to do this. One day I might walk up to the tank to see what the fish are doing and they will just ignore me and keep their color, and other days I will do the same thing and they will show their stress colors (dark vertical and lateral lines)

I can tell you that they do change color while they sleep. I often turn on a lamp in my room to give me a little light to see where they sleep just out of curiosity, and they show really dark lines while they sleep, along with most of their normal color. On a side note, it is interesting to see where they sleep, I have noticed that mine all have their own favourite spots they go to every night.
