can blue lobsters live with malawi cichlids or is this just asking for trouble? ive seen 2 in my lfs about 2" long each and i want them but i figure checking if they will live together first is a wise wove

I wouldn't reccommend it - Malawi's would quickly make a meal of a 2" crayfish but should the crayfish reach adult size - the situation could easily be reversed.

I have a Red-clawed blue crayfish (Cherax Quadricarinatus), which is what you are referring to and i keep him on his own in a 30 gal. The general reccommendation is to keep them alone but i know a couple of people on this forum have managed to integrate them into a community setup.

damn thats a shame!

it's annoying really since they look so good but seem to be compatible with very few fish!! i think my bichirs will make a meal of them faster than the malawis so i suppose there no go for now :(

cheers for the help anyway ferris :good:

if i recall properly there is a member here who does keep a Redclaw with malawi. but as stated it would be frought with problems.

first you will need to let the cray mature, about 7 months. the fish really should be mature too.

i have a theory, and have posted it on this forum. sadly that is all it is a theory. it did seem to work for me. but then my Cray did seem very chilled, compared to some i see.
