Hi,

I got some fish today by accident as an error was made by the delivery company. Included in this delivery were 2 Blue Limas.

All I know is that they are livebearers. They are small and a pair.

Any more information is very much appreciated. Also, will they be ok in my 16UK/19US tank. Bit worried about barbs. They don't have to be in there forever but at least for the near future.

Thanks!

You likely have Limia nigrofasciata, also known as the humped-back limia. They are a terrific little fish, easy to breed, and older individuals can be stunning!

I like to keep mine in species tanks, maybe with some cory cats for housekeeping, but they are suitable for most classic community tanks, though the fry stand much less of a chance in such a setup.

Here is a good link. Do a search and you will find lots more good info.

Good luck!

Thanks for the information,

I just looked them up and they look different to the ones I have. These are white with more of a blue sheen, but not dark at all. They are very pretty. I have not been able to find a photo of them, just an illustration right enough. I will try get a pic.

Does it look like this? I looked around, but can't find too many blue ones...

edit: this is the same species, kinda bluish...

Yeah that's them!! I haven't seen a pic other that an ilustration. Monty at Trimar reconed they were quite rare. At least I think it was them...

Anyway, do you think they will be ok in my tank? I will get a breeding net and so on if needs be but the tank is very planted.

I think they will be fine. They seem to be a lot like guppies. I can't find any info on the internet, but I have a magazine at home about wild livebearers. I'll have to look them up. I would just watch them with the barbs. Personally I don't forsee a problem. :)
