hi all ,
I got some blue green algae on the tops of my plants , would a black out get rid of the stuff ?

Thanks

Depending on the seriousness of your situation/what plants they are, you could just snip off the infected leaves, making sure you get all of it.

A blackout, however, is in my experience the easiest way to get rid of this stuff. 72 hours with no peaking, and all mine (admitedly on the substrate as supposed to the plants) had gone.

That doesn't mean to say that you shouldn't investigate the cause, though. It's all very well getting rid of it, but unless you work out why it's happened, it might just come back again.

Hope this helps,

Rob.

Thanks rob ,
It could be a mixture of things , but i havnt been able to do a water change for a while cos ive been in for an operation so the tanks just been neglected i guess , but now that iam ok i think i will do a 50% water change in the next few days followed by a black out and see if this does the trick :good:

Be careful doing a large water change after the tank has been neglected. Test the pH first and see if it has crashed. Depending on how long it has really been the shock of the change could cause some losses. It has happened to me before. It may be best to do several small changes, if you are up to it.
