Can anyone help me with finding info on the new "Electric Blue Jack Dempsey"? I've searched and searched through Google and others, and still can't find anything that helps.

Some sites say they are a Dwarf, some don't even say how big they will get. Most don't even have them in the Dempsey info -_-

Anything will be greatly appreciated :)

to tell you the truth there is no dwarfism in the blue dempsey, however they are less hardy than regular jack dempseys. most of them seem to die right around the 3-5 inch mark, and will continue to be sickly throughout their lives. however as far as info on them you are looking at a fish of around 7-8 inches if not a little bit bigger, and compaired to other jack dempseys they seem to thrive at around 82 degrees F.

the blue dempsey is not a hybrid. a hybrid is a fish that is created from two different species which normally would not mate in natural environments.

the blue dempsey is a dempsey that is bred with another dempsey naturally. the male and female are chosen for their coloration.

Actually, the blue dempsey came from a recessive gene in a normally colored dempsey!!

These few fry were pulled and grown out.

If one attempts to spawn two blue dempsey, the resulting fry will be to weak to survive.

It is therefore necessary to cross a blue dempsey with a regular dempsey, grow out their fry and then cross the offspring back to a regular dempsey.

Out of this spawn you should get a ratio of 25% blue dempsey.

If anyone is really interested in the mechanics, I can try to find the info I aquired from Jeff Rapps who is one of the few (if not the only) importer of the blue dempsey.

nice to see you posting cm. could you please put the information in a new thread that could be pinned in here. seems there is quite a few questions regarding this fish.

thanks

I just wanted to thank you all for the information and links :) WONDERFUL bunch of info. And, so you can see why I wanted it, this is "Jack". I inherited him from a friend who was moving and couldn't take him with her
