Hi I am going to buy a Blue Dempsey in a minute from Maidenhead Aquatics. However the fish is £30 and I dont fancy buying a 2" fish for that money without checking. Is this an artificially bred fish which is going to be weak and die? I couldn't find anywhere that says this but I'm sure it is a bred version. Thx.

It's bred and its a recessive trait so its hard to get.... thats why its 30 pounds. Very beautiful fish though :good:

That seems a little on the expensive side whenever i see them for sale they are usually around £15. Yes they are not as hardy as normal dempseys but they are a beautiful fish non the less.

Yes, they are weaker, just as all species that are bred for a pure gene. Many of today's show species of dogs and cats have very weak immune systems because of heavy inbreeding and a very small gene pool. The same goes for specialized fish like guppys and the EBJD

Thx, I decided to wait a while untill the tank is a lot more mature at least, I was planning on growing it out in a 20 gal first which is mature just didnt fancy wastying £30 just incase. Thx anyway.
