hello everyone! rite ive got rid of my fish and my 20g tank is ready for the crayfish! i have been offered 2 baby ones but am i not to just keep one? also, what fish can i put in with these if any? will fast moving tetras be ok and fish without long fins? thanks in advance summat fishy :D

I would think that the two cray's would be fine in the tank together, but as it goes with fish.... I would say none.... no matter what size or speed.

When the fish "sleep" at night, they will just sorta drift around the tank and even if the crayfish doesn't completely catch them, its claws can do major damage to the fishs fins, body etc. So... prob just them in there by themselves is the best way to go. Somebody will say they have the a cray with other fish and they have problems, and maybe that so, but one day that cray will prob get ahold of one of the fish and cause majopr damage to it if not kill it and eat it so i just feel its not worth the risk.

20ukg will be too small for two Redclaw, in a very short time. they can grow from two inches to six inches in under twelve months!!!! a rough rule is twenty five to forty gallons per cray. keeping two can be problematic. Cray do not live in a family unit! putting a male and a female together, can cause problems, as the male secretes hormones to make the female spawn, not always a good idea. they may also fight. two females will fight, though in a big enough tank, say 300ukg plus, you may be able to provide enough places to hide, and enough room for them to have separate areas.

as for keeping them with fish............

first off you will need to let the Cray mature, in a tank of its own. next Cray will not fair well in a tank that is not mature, young fish and young crays lead to fish soup!

if you are prepared to take the risk, it does seem possible to keep them in a community, however it must be remembered that it could all end in tears and dead fish! that said, Cray have lived with most tropical fish, but avoiding large predictors should go without saying.

whatever you decide, Cray are a fascinating creatures and are an addition to any fish collection, in community or on their own, that will prove well worth while.

hmmm rite...well it looks like a single cray for me and i will elt in mature before i add it to any fish if any...im going to look at that thread somebody left me and will write back on what i decide to do...
thanks in advance summat fishy :D

hmmm best get rid of the banjo cat.....hes on his own in the 20g and he will probs become food but hes always in a ball of java moss so i see no possible way of the cray getting to him however it probably will...

how thing go will depend on the Cray, mine has never touched my tetras! i must admit that the relationship between my pictus and the Cray is not the best, but no harm has come to anyone, yet. give it a try.!

I had two crays before in a 100 gal tank, they fought constantly and tries to eat all the fish in the community. Avoid anything that lives near the bottom for sure. Plus they are the amazingly resourceful when it comes to escaping. I came home one day to a cray in the middle of the carpet.

yeh, we have covered the problems of two Cray in a tank!

lol yeh Houdini in a shell.

Cray disposition is a vital part of the research you need to do, before making a move to community living.
