so this guy has been here a long time... I noticed as it sat there, it was "flitting" his tail... the top and bottom seems not to be attached in the middle... that area is black, and maybe it was expanding and contracting but with the center being black, I just couldn't tell... tried to get the best pictures I could...

If you suspect he damaged it somehow maybe a dose of kanaplex or similar? Just as a precaution in case its bacteria related and just to help it heal. Does the picture properly portray his color because if he is faded he might well have an infection which can cause tailfin splits..

I thought you were saying you thought it was split and not that it just looked split because of coloration.
