trying to identify these tetras...

His book, an "Aquarist's Journey," is a wonderful window into the golden age of the hobby. Forward by Stan Weitzman.

I have my own Rosario LaCorte story even here in Montana . My best friend in the whole world , who , sadly , passed away in December 2016 at the young age of 62 , and who was an accomplished fish breeder himself had a correspondence going with Rosario LaCorte . Greg had some very hard to obtain killies that became sick and close to death and mentioned it to Mr. LaCorte lamenting that he loved the fish and wanted to breed them . Rosario LaCorte said “ don’t give up on them , cure your fish “ and diagnosed them by email and gave the cure . The fish did pull through and Greg succeeded with them . I was very impressed by that . We still have people like that in the hobby who will help anybody but we should all do our part too . Oh , and by the way , I want that book !

GREAT story. Thanks for sharing it.

Decades ago, I introduced myself to and asked a hobbyist question of Dr. Stanley Weitzman, Curator of Fishes at the Smithsonian, and that launched a decades long correspondence and multiple fish-swaps. These icons never lost their enthusiasm for the hobby nor their desire to help and inspire others.

As for the book--and I thought you might want it if you didn't have it already-- it's available on Amazon or, as @Mr Limpet noted, The Greater City Aquarium Society, founded 1922. That quote on the back cover is by Joseph Ferdenzi who served as president of that organization for a remarkable 19 years.
