Fish Herder
Here's my new babies
They are meant to be a pair of blue acaras but only time will tell if they will actually pair up and if the female is really a female. They have a 55 gallon all to themselves. I'm really looking forward to watching them grow up. I've tried keeping kribs (too aggressive for the tank I had set up at the time), rams (someday I'll try another pair) and jewel cichlids (a pair of fish I really miss and hope to own again one day) before and was really sad to have to give them up. This time these guys are in the right size tank with it all to themselves so I don't think I'll encounter too many problems. I'm planning on getting more into cichlids.
About the stripes on the female I believe those are because she's stressed? The male also was very striped like that yesterday but today his stripes have faded away. Even less striped than when I took the pictures earlier today. I hope the female settles in soon. At the moment she reminds me of a convict.
One thing about the male I am a little unsure about is I noticed his left fin is deformed
It looks as they he must of been in a fight sometime in his life and maybe another fish pulled it out of joint and now it just kind of folds downwards. He is still able to swim around just fine and you can't notice it much. I've been trying to convince myself he's kinda like Nemo and needs love too but to be honest if I would of noticed it at the shop I think I would of chosen another male. I think it would be too much of a hassle to return him for another male though as the shop is 45 mins away.
Anyways on to the pictures.... here's where they are living
Here's the male
Another of the male
and one of the female
edit: I switched the background on the tank this afternoon to black so I just wanted to put a picture up of how the tank looks now. Oh and in this pic you can see the little girl towards the bottom on the right.
does it look better or?
