Blue Acara Yawning?

Is this anything to worry about? Once or twice a day I see him open his mouth and I could swear he looks like he is yawning. :blink:
 
mine does it and so does my bolivian ram, i figured they were just having a stretch :)
 
My Acara does it from time to time, seen most midwater fish do it in a few times. Dont think you need to worry :)
 
most fish will do that from time to time. dont quote me on this because i could be wrong but i think it is them back-flushing their gills.
 
Geophagus do this a lot and Acaras are very closely related to the Eartheaters, so maybe a trait?
 
Actually, MOST cichlids do this! It's pretty neat to watch, especially those with special jaws like the Malawi eyebiter, or the beforementioned geophagus. To strech it a bit, I've seen arowanas and polypterus do that too :hyper:

I guess it's just one of their traits. Because every cichlid I've ever owned yawned in front of me! :lol:
 
I have seen even weather loaches do it when i used to have some and their whole body shakes a bit when they do.
