A while back I bought some Assassins to sort out me pest snail problem.
They've done a great job and me better half want to keep them.
It's been said that they can live on scraps left over from me Guppies.
I've had a couple of empty shells and am concerned scraps are not enough.
Bloodworms have been suggested but have couple of questions to Assassin experts.
I can get sachets of live Bloodworms an can add them to me 64 ltr tank.
Guppies will eat them as well as me Assassins.
How often and how many should I add to me tank?
I've tried dried flakes and pelets but me Assassins don't seem to touch them.
Thats why I'm going down the fresh food route.

I have assassins in my tank and they don't eat each other... I no longer have any snails and if I want them to eat them I have to go to a shop and ask for a bag of snails for them. I feed a mixture of things and find the assassins eating all of them.

Tetra Prima.
Tetra Prima Granules.
Hikari Micro Pellets.
Tetra Pro Colour.
Frozen Bloodworm.

I feed the bloodworm every 2 days(as in, feed, miss, feed) and on the other days I feed one of the other foods. I also feed Tetra Wafers for my oto's and farlowella once or twice a week and find my assassins eating those too as I break them up so that the bits spread all over the tank.

cover my postage and you can have a bag full of trumpet snails! I'm killing them on a week by week basis

Who, me or Ardvark? Lol.

I find they don't need them really I just give them as an every now and then thing :)

hahahaha anyone that wants them!! I know they are good for turning the sand but they get out of control and become a blooming nightmare!

Yep, that's why I got the assassin's in the first place lol. I had so many MTS I thought they'd out-populate the Assassin's... I was wrong as my Assassin's are breeding XD I keep finding their little orange eggs in their sacks on the wood where my algae eaters can't reach.

unfortunately I can't get assassins as I've got 2 nerite snails that I want to keep! So I'm now sucking up trumpet snails with my gravel vac every few days. I've got a pot full currently. I've no idea if they are alive or dead or if they dry out once out of the water ... I suspect they would spring back to life if I added water to the pot!

Ah yeah... I like Nerite's, I just don't like all the eggs they leave all over the place which I've been told are extremely hard to remove.
That and Assassins which I doubt I would ever find all of since I have tiny babies running round the tank too XD

you can scrape nerite eggs off glass with a razor blade but getting them off stones is impossible and wood difficult. Sorry Ardvark, we've rather hyjacked your thread!

Yeah I have rocks and wood in my tank lol.
And yes, sorry Ardvark! XD

It's ok. You girls carry on. I've took the plunge and added a sachet of live Bloodworms to me tank.

I was told that bloodworms can make fish constipated if they are fed bloodworms a lot. My lot get a treat every Friday with frozen bloodworms.

Mine get fed every 2 days as I said with no problems :) Apart from Sunday, Sunday is their no food day lol.

The bloodworms I added were intended for me Assassins. When I did add them me Guppies had some as well. When I got up this morning and turned the lights on I saw there were still a few Bloodworms wriggling on top of the gravel. I would have thought they would have hidden in the gravel by now. Perhaps I have some of the single brain cell variety eh?
