Are bloodworms really red mosquito larvae as it says on the front of the package?

Ya, live ones are pretty gross you try to get them out and they wiggle on your fingers.... you get used to it though, at least I did. It's cool to hold it above the water and see your fish jump to catch it. It feels weird, they are pretty strong!
