Hey guys, I used to work in a pet store and saw our blood parrots their being aggressive towards eachother than later they bred... I have 2 of them now (male and female) and they're being quite aggressive to one another, they've already dug a pit in the gravel but I'm still confused... Are they breeding on me? Or is my male just a jackass because he wants the tank? Any help would be great... oh ya... it's a 20 gallon tank, topfin 30 filter and whisper 20 airpump, stealth heater... Please help! :p

they will try to spawn and digging is a sign of this.

How ever they are almost alway sterial. so u may get eggs but your be luckt to get anything else

It is a sad fact that 99% of male blood parrots are sterile so you would be extremely lucky if you did manage to get any fry. The male blood parrot does not know this fact and will keep trying so get used to the breeding behaviour because it will be a regular thing. They will look after the eggs very well for around 3 days after that they will realise the eggs are no good and then either eat them or just abandon them for the other fish to eat i had a pair once that used to scoop them up and scatter them around the tank for the other fish to eat. :look:

Thanks! however you're saying 99% are sterial? That simply cannot be because I had 2 pairs at one point in time and they bred monthly for me many babbies many times :D So I don't think 99% is right mabye like 50-60% anyone else agree?

You must be very rich then, a breeding pair can get many £100's to breeders, and small fish in the uk start form £10 and 2-3" are £20ish
