I may be reciving a new tank soon :hyper: and I am not sure what to put in it -_- these fish caught my eye. The maximun size tank would probably be 40 mabye more and 30 at least.

Would this size be large enough?

is it possible to sex them?

Is it possible to breed them and if so how large of a tank is required?

Can you train them? (if you don't know what I am talking about look up R2Fish school)

and any other facts you may know.

probably 55g and up for blood parrots, you cant sex them, and most males are infertile.
And you can hand feed parrots but i dont think you can train them.
They get around 8-9 inches
There a hybrid between a midas and a red devil I think, not sure though.

Hi you can train them, I was going to train fish as part of a specialist project for college but then decided against it simply because if i say ' go through the hoop' the fish isn't going to respond to it my voice as it an't process the words unlike that of a dog, the fish simply follows a stick you have which releases food once you allow it too usually as a reward when after it has did a 'trick such as going through the hoop'.

Would love to know how it goes if you decide to though :)

I have a blood parrot they are slow growers so I would only reccomand a 30g tank if its a juivenile, although you will have to upgrade.

I have never knew parrot cichlids are usually infertile why is that?
Majority of male fish that are hybridized are infertile. There are a few that can breed, but they're pretty scarce. BP's are a crossbreed, so the males are typically unable to fertilize eggs.

I'd have to agree on 55 gallons being minimum, blood parrots get a good 8 inches or so, and they're very fat and chunky.

You might be able to get away with one in a 40 gallon breeder tank (36"x18"x16") but I'd check up on that.

They cant chew food very well and takes them a while to chew and eat them. Try some soft foods and make sure they get quite a bit of food. I usually feed mine Freeze dried Brine shrimp, Hikari Massivore, frozen bloodworms.

Definitely one of my favourite fish
