I woke up this morning and noticced that my bettas stomach looks a lil round. I only feed him 3 pellets twice a day. I also noticed that he only stayed at the top of the tank. could this be swimming bladder disorder?

Does she have problems swimming anywhere other than near the surface? It could be swim bladder as generally a fish will either be stuck at or near the surface or opposite, near the bottom.

You could try feeding her a little bit of shelled pea. To do this, take a few frozen peas and pour boiling water onto them in a bowl. Leave them for a few minutes, then take them and squash them inbetween your fingers, so the two halves pop out of the pea shell. break them up into smaller bits and feed a bit at a time. Peas are good for the digestive system so will help with any blockages.

Don't feed too much though :) Good luck!

I also noticed that while swimming at the surface, his back sticks out of the water. never happened before. Hes also swimming while his head is down. this all happend just overnight!!!

it does seem that he is having trouble going down and he swims kinda spastically

okay, I did a 30-40% water change and fed him half a pea. He ate the pea like he was starvin!!! I come 30 min later, and twice as fat as he was before!!!! This may sound disgusting but his anus looks like its about to blow!!!

but he is swimming around more, is this normal?

im pretty sure its bloating and/or constipation.
how do i fix this? I fed him the pea (ALOT OF IT!!! twice) he has deificated twice but the second time was very loose and yellowish in color. he seems thinner also but still a bit fat

Don't feed him anymore.
Just fast him for a day. If he's pooping then that's a good sign and hopefully his bloating will go away. After a day you can try giving him some more pea (not too much though), just to make sure his system is cleared up.

i had the same problem with one of my guys

i fasted him for a few days then fed him a little bit of a pea and i'm going to fast him again before i start feeding him his normal food again. he's not as bloated and he's managed to swim down more without floating up.

good luck with yours i hope that everything goes well with him :D

you can do epsom salt bath if it gets worse..keep us posted

his behavior has changed also, he stays at the top alot and goes to the bottom to rest. But i think he only stays at the top because he likes to stand in the filter current lol

Im going to fast hm for 2 days and change his diet around. I read in mutiple books that I need to possibly improve his diet. The #1 food I feed him is 3 Hikaro Bio Gold pellet things twice a day.

also, his gills always have those red stripes on them as if hes been flaring, is that normal? theres no mirrors or anything around

I think Hikari Pellets are probably the best non-live food you can give him. Almost everyone on here uses them, and everything I've read recommends them. So I don't think it's a problem with his diet, unless you want to buy him some treats like frozen/freeze dried blood worm, brine shrimp or daphnia, although frozen is much better as freeze dried can lead to constipation problems. If you do get him any of this stuff, be sure to feed sparingly as the excess protien can also lead to constipation problems. They're just stuck up little guys, aren't they? LOL

Also, the beard sticking out of the gill plate isn't all that uncommon, I see it on my guys a lot too. I think it's just because the beard is so long that it just exposes sometimes even though they haven't flared. -_-

alright. thank you all!!!
Im real attached to my betta. rescued him from a petstore

Just disappoints me to see him in pain or anything

You're certainly not alone here. I think every betta bought from a pet store can be considered a rescue. And as you can see we all suffer from what might be considered a bit more than a healthy attachment to our bettas, lol. Hope he pulls through ok. :good:

OH NO!!!! I CAME HOME AND HE IS SWIMMING ON HIS SIDE!!!!! HE CAN BARELY SWIM!!! WHATS WRONG WITH HIM!!! HES NOT MOVING MUCH!! I CHECKED THE WATER PARAMETERS AND THEY WERE FINE EXCEPT FOR A ABOUT .25 OF NITRITE!!!

HES STAYING AT THE TOP[!!! JUST FLOATING TO THE SURFACE!!!
