I have a Crown Tail Betta which I have had almost a year. He lives alone in a 5-gallon aquarium and he has suddenly become very bloated. I researched on the net and have done the following:

Fed him green peas which he loves.
Added epsom salts to his water.
Fed him Gel-tek Tetracycline which he ate for a while and his quit eating.

His appetite seems good.

He doesn't seem to be in pain. How the heck do we know?

He eats freeze-dried blood worms, frozen blood worms and a few pellets.

I'm attaching a picture.

Please help. Thanks.

Finally found the disease. Here it is.

Malawi Bloat
Treatment:This is not really a disease, but a symptom of a bacterial infection and possibly malnutrition. There are medications available but try to increase the quality of the water by performing a 25% water change every other day and increase the quality of fish food given. If your fish's condition doesn't improve, try the medication. Your local pet store should have medication for this disease. Remove any carbon filtration before using medication because the carbon will remove the medication from the water.

Thank you so much! I'll start with the water change today and head for our local aquarium guys for the meds, just in case. Food may have to come from the web or maybe I can talk them into ordering something other than freeze-dried and frozen bloodworms. I'll keep you posted on his progress. Thanks again.
