Hi, I have five tiger barbs and two of them look fat. Not bulging but chubby, they might just be females. i was wondering if someone could poast a photo of a fish with bloat looks like and about how and if it should be treated. Thank you

your barbs probably just ate too much. if they're still active, they most likely do not have bloat, although photos would be needed to confirm that.

Bloat is a disease that effects Malawi Cichlids so its doubtfull your tiger barbs are suffering it. What causes bloat is feeding the Cichlids a protein rich diet, the fish have evolved to eat algea and so have a very long intestine in order to digest as much nutrient from the matter as possible (just like in cows or sheep). When the fish are fed meaty foods with a higher protein content the fish dont have the stomachs to digest the proteins and the food begins to decay while still inside the fishes guts causing the fish to swell up, it is most often fatal.

OK thanks guys. Now I am Almost positive that they dont have bloat because there as active as ever and eating just asmuch. Also they plumper ones might just be female i think the female barbs are plumper then the males. Thanks for the help.
