I also posted this in the betta section, but I figure i might have luck here as well.

So about a month ago I bought a red and black and purple DT from the pet store here. He seemed to be very well, and was eating even the first day i got him in his new tank.

Everyday I check him, and he is happy. Last night when I was feeding him, he was sitting under the food which was floating, and he didn't seem to notice it there, it started to sink and of course fell on him, and he freaked out thrashing around, he couldn't find the food. His eyes look very very light, i put my finger right in front of his eyes, and he just sits as though nothing is there.

Does anyone know if he is blind? I am assuming he is from his behaviour. Any one know reasons why? Or if anyway to fix this, or make it easier?

Please let me know. I am worried about him.

No, not cloudy or milky, they are just white and shiny, as though his eyes are glowing

What are the water parameters? I had a male betta go completely blind and was ramming into the glass on the tank when there was a sudden Nitrite rise. Scared the heack outta me - I had done a water change 12 hours before, and the level was as close to zero as it could be and by the time I had gotten home the test said it was at least 5.0. I did about three 80% water changes over the course of an four hours to get the levels down, and about six hours after that he was back to normal and is currently fine.

I willhave to test the water when i get home, I am at work right now. Thanks

i have heard that pointing a IR (a transfer beam used to transfer info from one cellphone to another, or from a handheld to another) to a betta or any fish blinds them for good, so maybe something like this happened.

No one in my house has that, nor would anyone do that. I, myself, am 20, my boyfriend is 26, older brother is 23, and my parents certainly wouldn't do that.

There are not kids in my home, and really no one by myself or my boyfriend go in my room. So that is not a possiblity.

Also, my betta is on my bookshelf, which is in the corner of my room, i don' t think a transfer beam would go over there. If there was risk of that, then the two bettas on my dresser, or the one on my desk would be the ones hit with it.

It hard to say what it could be as there any many courses from poor water quality, parasites, to bacterial infections, even fish tb, any signs of laboured breathing or flicking and rubbing on objects, also is the fish resting on things and does he look bloated.

Check the Cataracts part of the link.

I purchased a betta that was blind from petsmart. His eyes were a light blue/white color. I had to feed him from a dropper everyday but he seemed like a very happy fish, making bubblenests and everything.

was he always like this, or just recently?
