im setting up a 90 gal tank soon with 6 discus. I had originally thought for shoaling fish to have cardinals, harlequins, hatchets, black neons and corys. But since the cardinals harlewuins and black neons would all be a similar size i was thinking swapping the black neons for something a little bigger in a group of 5 or 6. So i would like something from the amazon and was wondering if bleeding hearts would get along with the discus? i dont know if they are fin nippers or anything really. thanks in advance :)

sorry just wanted to ask something else, i found this shop online selling some discus and im not too familiar with stunted discus but are these stunted or ok? i just thought their eyes looking kinda big and bodys the wedge shaped maybe?
My link

they all look HORRIBLE!!!! they are terrible examples of discus, they look both stunted and have genetically poor shape. i would steer clear of those if i were you.

i get mine from chens discus and im sure he has a suppler in scotland. just ggole him and you will see how much better quality his stock are, and better priced.

I have a shoal of 5 bleeding hearts, that are all now about 2.5" long. tHey have not been fin nippers at all, and have been kept with an angel so the temptation has been there.

THey are absolutely stunning fish. I thoroughly recommend them. I think they should also go pretty well with discus, as they are not as boisterous as many other larger tetras. Although I suspect the bleeding hearts would be first to any food in the tank.
Even so, I still find that my "slower feeders" still get plenty of food.

yeh i thought that, i had already decided to not go anywhere near them. I know almost nothing about discus and i can still spot that those are not good fish :(

That shop is terrible btw I was in it last week and I've never seen such dirty tanks and such a lack of general fish keeping care. So god only knows what his postal fish would arrive looking like.

When I saw the title I KNEW you'd comment, hamfist

bleading hearts might be a risky move in my opinion. They seem like to big of a fish to be with discus i would strongly recommend getting rummy nose tetras. :D

Yes, it must be said, that my recommendation of bleeding hearts is not based on any experience of them with discus. In fact my experience of discus is fairly limited, having only kept some for a few weeks.
What I do find is that the BH's are not boisterous or rough at all with any other fish. However, they are fast and eager feeders, which could possibly be an issue with discus. When I say "eager", they are not as fast and hectic as rainbowfish or colombian tetras when feeding, for example, but are noticably faster than something like cardinals or rummynose.

However, with a tank of say 6 discus and a small shoal of 4-5 BH's I would imagine that feeding the discus should not be a huge problem. If the ratio of numbers of discus to BH's became significantly less then I could see a potential problem getting enough food to the discus.

ahh i completely forgot about them!!
now im just torn, i think bleeding hearts are gorgeous but rummy noses have better success with discus...?

i keep rummys with my discus and i think they are perfect. their red noses come alive in the high temperature quality water discus need. also the discus are the focal point of the aquarium and all other fish are there to compliment the discus. in my opinion, 6 discus, a large shoal of sterbai corys, 15+ rummynose tetra and a couple of bristlenose plecs and you have the perfect discus set up!!!!
