hey everyone :good:

one of my black widows has a big funny black mark around one of its fins and it looks a bit swollen, i moved the fish into a hosp tank (15ltr hexagon tank with fake plants) and left it there for a day or 2 to see if it would heal itself, but now it has a cotton woolth growth on the black area! anyone got any ideas what it is? its not really like an ulcer more like a hole.

thanks x x x

cotton wool is a fungal infection. Do some research, it will help in the future to diagnose problems with other fish.

Size of tank in gallons or litres.
How many fish and which type.
Water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.
Your fish has a bad bacterial infection.

Need to look at your water stats as black patches can be ammonia burns that are healing.

cotton wool generally indicates fungas though

Still all bacterial, the med for the hole in the side it bacterial.

hey,
its only the one black widow thats affected, all other fish are fine.
ive moved it into a 15ltr tank on its own, the stats are all fine
ammonia - 0
nitrite- 0
nitrate 10
what med would you sugessed?
also this is quite an old fish, so could this disease be due to its old age?
thanks x x

Don't know, but if he's really old his immune system could be shutting down.
Don't no location for a med, and with that hole really need an antibiotic.
If in the uk myxazin and pimafix.

hi , yep im in uk, i'll buy these meds tomorrow and try to see if they help.
thanks for your help

Good luck bex.
But I wouldnt expect to much the bacterial infections are mounting up, and uk meds are not that strong.
Once they advance need stronger meds.
