Black Plastic Cracked

The black plastic piece on the top on the tank has cracked in a few places. I think it's from the light, not sure. If this worsens will it effect my glass and eventually crack that?

i shouldnt have thought so, the glass is pretty tough, i removed the plastic strip all together on my old tank, do you have a picture of it?

I can't post it, it's too large.... But it is cracked in like 3 spots
