got a friend with a tank, i think it's fairly well maintained, don't know him very well though and I've not seen the tank myself so we'll have to go on assumptions a bit with this.

he's got a black moor who he say's has had white spot for all 4 years of his life. hmmm i thought, he'd be dead by now surley??

he's tried a few white spot meds to no avail.

other symptoms are resting on the floor (just today apparently) and a red bum.

i thought it could be parasites but i'm really not sure.

anyone got any thoughts what it could be or what's best to do.

i haven't any more info than this at the moment but I can grill him a bit if you've any specific questions.

Need a pic im afraid.

Ask specifically where the sopts are. All over, just the fins, just the gills?

Red back end may suggest internal parasites or a bacteria. Bottom sitting with any fish is a general indicator of something wrong.
Need to know tank size, companions, filtration, water change and tank maintenance. Feeding as well and tell your friend to do a 60% water change asap with a gravel vac and dont add any more meds until we get a decent pic.

I agree with black angel he's not in good shape.
Red bum can be internal parasites to dropsy.
Is he laboured breathing as laying to oneside. not good news.

no i don't think he's healthy either :/ i'll get some more details about the set up and post back.

thanks guys

this is what i have now been told, verbatum

the spots are on his gill cover and pectoral fin, he is in the tank now on his own with one loach, the tank is cold water. i have a built in tower Jewl filter system, did a half water change this week. The tank has some plants in. The tank is 32" long x 16" height x12"depth I put a little amount of tonic salts in his tank a couple of weeks ago.

told him the tonic salts are rubbish and not to bother with them

what do you reckon it is and what should he do?

ha ha cool, i never knew that. never had coldwater fish so I'm at a loss really!

what about the red bum and sitting on the floor of the tank though?

:/

Ask him if he ever sees it poo and if so what it looks like.
He has a juwel with no other filter, which is bad news. Juwels cant cope with goldfish mess so he needs something else in there such as a fluval3+ .

How many fish does he have and what sizes? How often does he do a half water change?
Tonic salt is a good idea for goldfish and ask how much he has put in please.

Knowing ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and ph would also be good.

What does he feed the fish?

it's just the one goldfish and 1 weather loach so not too heavily stocked, although i know the juwel filters can be cr@p.

isn't all that 'tonic salt' rubbish? don't you need to use proper marine salt for it to be effective? that's what I've always been told

i'll ask some more when he comes back on the other forum i know him from :)
