Hi there

I asked a question about my betta and got some good answers so thought I would ask something else, about my black female molly.

I think she is pregnant as she is putting on weight and no its not down to overfeeding,. She is real fat. Black mollies you can't tell if pregnant beause can't see gravid spot. So how can I tell if she is? I have noticed she has white stuff coming out of her.Plus has white spot on the bottom of her. What is going on with her? It isn't ick as she has no other white spots on her. My fish had ick so I know it is not that?

I am quite new to this hobby but do think she is definately pregnant, any signs that they give off before giving birth, and also will the male molly who keeps pestering her, even though I think he has had his evil way with her, will he be harming her by keep putting his mouth where the babies will come out?

Ha sorry difficult to explain but hope someone might beable to offer adivce?

Thanks
Debbie

when my female was due to drop she had a kind of white membrain coming out of the back end of her, i new something was up so transfered into a breeding trap. within 5 mins of transfering her and not be stressed by the mail she started to give birth. an hour later i had almost 100 molly babys swimming about

Well she seemed to be secreting white stuff out of her earlier, have been sat watching her the last few days, maybe I shall see some mini ones soon then!!!

A molly is like any other livebearer. When it is well along, the shape of the female's body will take on a very squarish look just where you might otherwise be able to see a gravid spot. The shape is a dead giveaway once you have seen one in this state.

Black livebearers are that way. You can't see there gravid spot, but after they drop a few times, then you will get used to knowing when they will be having them.
