Hi all

One of my small black mollys has a problem and I wondered if anyone knew what it was? About halfway down his body a greyish/white coating has appeared on him - this has been there for a week or so now. His tail is clamped but he is eating well. It is literally like we've picked him up by the head and dipped him in something as the coating is covering the whole of his tail and half of his body. There are no spots, no fluffy stuff and no red edging. The coating stops in a straight line down the molly's body rather than having an undefined edge to it - it just stops and the body is normal at the front. I treated with Interpet No 7 (Velvet and Slime) on Friday but there's no difference so far. I had an adult black molly die last week of the same thing although he lasted about 2/3 weeks like that until he went.

Could this be slime disease and, if so, how long should the treatment take to work?

Thanks

Thanks for the reply. I've had a look on the second page of your thread but can't see what you're referring to.

this pic shows a white coating on my mollys head, looks like hes been painted. is that the same as your molly has?

It's nothing like that. It's not raised at all.

I have taken a few pictures. They're not very good quality but hopefully you should be able to see what I mean. The ringed part in the second picture is the tail of the fish.

oo see what you mean, that doesnt look too good. im not good in the slightest with fish diseases but im sure womeone on here will be able to tell you the problem :)

I'm just bumping this in case any of you lovely evening people have any ideas that may help.

If the fish are not flicking and rubbing against objects its columnaris.

No flicking or rubbing. I thought of Columnaris but ruled it out as I thought wispy bits were evident with that and this is a smooth coating.

I am in the UK, can you recommend any particular med?

Thanks

Columnaris come in many diguises.
It can be bleached out greyish white marks.
Uk myxazin and pimafix, or anti internal bacteria med by interpet and pimafix.

I have Pimafix and the anti-internal bacteria meds in. I put the slime disease treatment in on Friday and although it says to wait 7 days before treating with anything else do you think I could do a decent sized water change and start it tonight?

Remove med with water change and black carbon.

Water change done and carbon in. How long do I have to wait before I can start the meds?

Thanks

I would let the black carbon run for at least 24 hours.

UPDATE:

I am due to do my second dose of the anti-internal bacteria med tomorrow but can see no difference in the fish at all. Another smaller black molly is now showing very slight signs of a similar thing but she is flicking a little as well whereas the bigger one isn't.

Could it be something else other than columnaris? Does the med I am using take a while to work?

Thanks
