Black Hair Like Algae

I have a fair bit of what looks like black stringie hair on some of my plants, what does this mean? How do i get rid of it? Cheers

hi
black algae is a nightmare & looks b***y awful. we got rid of our outbreak by :
1.cutting back on feeding (i was guilty of overfeeding)
2.introducing a break in lights on ie: our lights go on at 8 off at 12 back on at 1400 until off at night until 1900 (when moonlights come on until 2100- all our lights are on automatic timers)
3.using a phosphate remover in the filter (like rowaphos)
4.remove all infested leaves of plants & scrub stuff like rocks that have the algae on them, tedious but all helps.

we had a bad outbreak & using these methods helped get rid of it havent seen it again (outbreak was about 3 yrs ago)
