Black Females, Is It True?

Not all of them, but if you spawn a black male with black parents and a black female with black parents, the females from the spawn would be infertile. Or so I've heard. But yours probably is just fine

Melano females are infertile, but I don't think super blacks are... I read why once and I can't remember for the life of me.

Technically it's not that melano females are infertile, but the way the pigment cells are deposited (in clumps) causes the eggs to rupture prematurely for some reason, so the result is the same. Superblack females are by and large fertile

Lol, I wasn't calling you out on a technicality, just saying. I refer to them as being infertile most of the time anyway, the real reason is too hard to explain every time

yep, indeed they are fertile but the melano pigment "breaks the eggs"...

theoretically a low percentage of melano females can spawn normally, with hatching fry, but till now i didn't meet anyone having such a female

usually melano males are spawned with "steel blue + melano" females (if you intend to get melano fry)

well, as long as people keep trying to breed their melanos, they will eventually breed a strain that is fertile, and then everybody will be happy

Well, that's kinda how Superblacks were produced, breeding melano to copper and selecting those with the least iridescence. That colour is a much darker, purer black than melano anyway, so a lot of breeders are working it instead. Melano is more... opaque? though. I don't have a good word for it... it's kinda like the difference between opaque whites and platinums, to me.
