i have received a group of black belt cichlids (at the moment only 5cm big but iknow how big they grow!) do you think it is ok to put them in with a pair of oscars for now? (theres small fish in there already but lots of hiding places/coverage) am hoping to get a couple out of the BB's then sell the other 5

If you think your O's wont eat them, go ahead, Id be concerned about them being snackable though :)

Never kept them, but Blackbelts have the worst reputation for aggression out of the Vieja species as far as I know. Keep an eye if you keep them with present tankmates into maturity. As above, if O's are big, BB's could end up as a snack.

As said its a 50/50 chance, however once they mature be very careful, these have a bad rep, i had a vieja bifa which black belts are ment to be worse, my bifa beat up the tank and killed three cichlids, she came at 4inch when oscars were at the 12inch mark
