Black Background

Hi

I currently have one of those stick on backgrounds with plant images etc, but overtime it has come loose and creased in places, well to cut this short i am looking to change it for a solid background.

I really like the look of the black background, but not sure how this will look in a 2ft tall tank, most tanks i have seen on here with black backgrounds are what seem to be smaller tanks, but they look fantastic!

Has anyone got any pics of tall tanks with black backgrounds to share? also what is best to use for making one? (paint etc)

Also i have some scratches on the tank, will a black background make these more obvious when viewing?

I just got a plain black background sheet for mine - same as you have now by the sound of it. I moistened to glass with a damp cloth, cut the background to size and placed it on the glass. Then I sealed it down the side with some celotape and then carefully pulled the background away from the glass and blew down the gap to dry it out. I ended up with a nice plain black background with no air bubbles or visable creases.

It still looks as good a month later and it cost next to nothing too!!

A cheap way to do it is to get some black card from a stationers, then use double sided tape..
That's all I've done with mine.
It's easy to remove too if you change your mind

Use the cheaper option, if you like the black... then take the cheap backing off and paint the back! You can use paint (i used enamel paint? for radiatiors etc i think) or spray paint. Looks sooo much tidier and doesnt get messy, with a big of scraping and white spirit... it does come off eventually too

I used plant plastic backing for planted tanks as it got rid of gaps i may have had as plants grew out, black for all other tanks but blue for discus.

You can use pretty much anything. The couple i bought my 4ft from had painted the back with blackboard paint.

5 minutes and a few brand new (MUST be brand new so as to not scratch the glass) Stanley blades used on their side, and it was all off in about 50 neat strips.
