How do you dispose of dead fish?

In the old days when I kept goldfish I used to flush the dead ones down the toilet, but now I'm not so sure that's a good way, especially for larger fish. Putting them in the bin isn't great either, because they'd probably start to smell before dustbin day, and I'm not sure dead fish in the landfill would be good either

I suppose they could have a dignified burial in the garden like we used to do for guinea pigs and rabbits.

I haven't had to face this yet with tropical fish (touch wood) but I guess I will some day

If they are small enough, they go in the toilet.
If they are too big to flush they go in the food bin.
If they are too big for that they go in the normal bin.

If you are worried about the fish making the rubbish bin smelly you could always put the fish in a plastic baggy and store in the freezer until trash day.

I always bury mine in the garden, it seems fitting for a fish that I have been looking at for at least a couple of years and besides, it will also help the plants grow.

So you recommend flushing a Diseased fish or other down the toilet into the water way?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Totally irresponsible.

All fish should either go into the rubbish bin or be buried in the garden.

NEVER EVER EVER FLUSH THEM

I wouldnt have SUCH a knee jerk reaction, if you are on a septic system, it would cause no harm to flush them. If your on a city sewer grid, then perhaps you might want to think twice.

you can always mount them lol.

Having a private, us only septic system, I flush. Never had a big enough fish to not flush.
if you don't have above situation, best to take them out to trash or bury them.

why wouldn't a dead fish be good in a landfill? They're completely biodegradable. it's all the plastic and dead computers that cause problems in landfills, not organic matter.

either the toilet or wheelie bin for me but carnt remember when i had a last fish that dyed if one dies the bn normally get to it before i do

cheers dane

I bet the other stuff that gets flushed down the toilet is way worse so I imagine it would be safe.
