Just rang around several lfs to get prices on rummy nose and cardinal tetras. When I told the garden centre I was looking at around 20 cardinals he said "oh, you must be planning a wedding?" and I said "huh?" and he said "people buy them to put in bowls for the tables" and I said "erm, no, that's bizzarre and cruel, why would I do that? I already have some cardinals, and I want some more to bulk up the shoal a bit" and he sounded very surprised and gave me the price.

Is it just me or there something really wrong with someone who sells fish being *surprised* that a customer is buying fish simply for the joy of having fish, rather than them being a means to an end?!

Well... provided the cardinals then go on to live in the buyers aquarium after the event I see no problem i.e. as long as its very short term).

I just hope they aren't taken back to the shop afterwards...

Any LFS's first priority is to make money, a sale is a sale to the vast majority of them. There's only 1 I know of that refuses to sell fish to these sort of functions including any fairs of that which give live fish in a bag with a prize. I only know this as it states it clearly on their website.

Its sad but true.
