Bit Confused Over Cycling New Tank

I have recently returned to this great hobby and I want to use the "add & wait" method posted in the threads above. It seems simple enough, just one question tho? If I place some filter media from my smaller cycled tank in my new filter will this effect the "add & wait" method? Would it be an advantage to the speed of cycling or just cause me problems?

there's two sides to it really

adding filter media will speed up the cycle immensley and give you a very good grounding to start from

however

if there have been any diseases or problems in the tank in the last few months then you risk spreading diseases and cross contamination.

so yes great idea, but only do it if your confident of the health of the other tank
