Just wondering but wouldn't these actually help since they won't catch diterius and become a nitrate creator? (of course I would gut the inside)
BIO-Wheel

From what I understand, it might be not nessessary in a reef, but it would help.
Just seeing what you all have to say before I try 'em out.

u mean just an emty filter :D? , the bioweel would be a nitrate4 factory

The problem with modern filtration systems and reefs is that the problem is diterius collection. This wouldn't catch any....

Or, if you really look at it, it won't. As mentioned, without a way of catching detritus then a filter will not become a nitrate factory. A biowheel will probably take over a lot of the filtration from the LR with regards to ammonia and nitrite.

Hell, even if you stuffed it full of filter floss or sponge to purposefully catch detritus you would only have problems with it should you fail to clean it.

One of my real pet hates is this feeling that anything that isn't LR is a nitrate factory.
