I'm thinking of getting 1 of these for my 29 gallon. How's their temperment? Will one be ok with a couple gold rams? I already do 1-2 water changes a week for the rams. That being said will that be ok for a cupido?

Tank stats are
Temp=80
PH=7.2
Nitrate=5-10 (closer to 5)
Ammonia and nitrite are 0

It's filtered by 2 penguin bio wheel 150 HOB filters. I'm paranoid about the filters so I added a 2nd filter about a month and a half ago.

Any advice on keeping these guys would be appreciated. I google searched them but got mixed results on aggression and other things.

i looked into these fish too. 29 gal is the bare min of tank size. They are peaceful I think they would be fine tank mates for your rams. temp should be 77-82 F They like warm water.

I was hoping they'd be ok together. My LFS said it would be ok but I wanted to hear what others had to say. Trying to make an informed choice. They look like big rams that's what caught my eye.

They do look like Bolivian Rams a little. Just keep and eye on them because you know they are still cichlids and well these fish have lots of personality. So just because they are said to be Peaceful does not mean you can't get a bossy one.

i kept some of these guys about 8 years ago in a 6 foot tank with bolivian rams and keyholes and they were a bit scrappy between themselves but not an aggresive fish .
very picky eaters and need very good water quality but mine were wild caught shame on me but it was a start of a breeding project .
they grew to about 4 may be five inches and coloured up nicely about the 2 inch mark.
live plants and bogwood for shelter and some of the larger tetras will make a good home

Thanks tree. I live in Florida so everything is either farm raised or bought from a breeder or at least that's what my LFS owner tells me. One of my gold rams has gotten really aggressive so I'm having second thoughts on the cupido. It's a community tank with Rasboras, panda corries, neons and 2 gold rams.

they will get on well with cory's but will grow a bit larger than the rams .
if you are looking for something else try looking for dwarf acaras as they do well with rams .
i have never known a ram to be aggresive only a bit nippy.
8 years is a long time and farm raised fish or local breed fish are easier to keep but in my opinion your tank in the long term is only big enough for a pair of cupido.
:good:
