Looking at the biOrb website, I don't see any reason why those stones wouldn't work in another tank (I'm assuming that you're talking about what they call "Ceramic media"). However, due to the spherical shape of the biOrbs you're probably going to need to buy more substrate to cover the bottom of your new tank (assuming that you're buying a standard, flat-bottom tank). Others here know more about different substrate, but for a basic beginner tank with fake plants you can get inert pea gravel from your LFS for very cheap.

BTW, you also might want to watch these threads for additional answers; seems like this is a popular question.

lol, appearantley he started those 2 threads as well...

I think it would work, but I'm not sure if you'd have enough for the tank.

i'd chunk it and start fresh. the biorb "ceramic media" is notoriously sharp and a horrible substrate for bottom-dwellers. since most people ultimately want to add cories, loaches or plecos, you might as well use an appropriate substrate from the start.

get a nice rounded off gravel or use a sand substrate. if you decide that you would like to use sand, try to make certain that you get an inert variety. most playsands do well, but need a lot of rinsing. i personally have pool filter sand in my tank and think that it's great. most LFS also sell "aquarium sand" too. the aquarium sands are always more expensive that sand bought from a hardware store but are also guaranteed fish-safe (no chemicals, pesticides, etc.). just watch out for sands that "buffer" your aquarium or are otherwise calcerous. a silica sand is what you want.
