Just getting into my first tank. I've had it set up for about a month and half now and am constantly thinking of ways to enhance it. So far, I have it planted with two cryptocorynes, an anubias and a smallish piece of driftwood that goes from bottom to top. I have just gotten a star moss and two fissidens zippelianus for the wood.

Currently, for its inhabitants, I have a male betta, a female african dwarf frog and a small clown pleco of unknown gender.

I was thinking about adding some schooling fish [6 green neon tetras] and maybe a shrimp [ghost, amano, bamboo?]. The question is as follows: would it be too much to add these? And not, can they all live in the same tank? And can a shrimp live on its own in a tank?

Thank you!

Hi and welcome to the forum :good:

As a fellow betta keeper i (and many others) have found keeping some Males with other fish a challenge, depending on his temperment.

You could try the green neons (great that your thinking 6, best number to start with) just keep a close eye on them to see if theres any problems.

Shrimp should be fine providing there not too small, i have kept Amano's with my Betta's before with no problems, they produce very little to the bioload so i'd say you could have a nice group of 6 as well as the neons :good:

Be sure to post some pictures of your setup

So you would recommend multiple shrimp in the tank along with a number of neons? You don't think that would be too much with the clown pleco?

And anyways, I am worried about my african dwarf frog eating the shrimp... By the way, can an african dwarf frog eat himself to death?

should be fine however the clown pleco will need a slightly bigger tank once its fully grown

Can't comment on the frog as i have never kept them
