Bio Wheel Stopped... Please Help!

I had one bio wheel filter long ago. The wheel ended up being a dog toy, the fish were fine without it.

Lol

As for the filter media
In our 28gal, we still use the vertical tray thing, but also have cut up filter bags in it as well.
In the 5gal.. I got rid of the horizontal tray a loooong time ago b/c it did absolutely nothing to stop the debris. Now I just cut up a filter bag and put it in to the filter. Works just fine and so much easier not having to buy a bajillion different filter media types.

for everyone's future reference, here's what you can do when your bio-wheel stops spinning or slows down considerably.

1. rinse your rite-size cartridge in old tank water as much as you can to get rid of the gunk on it
2. make sure that there is some space between the bottom of the cartridge and the filter (you don't want water spraying out of the little hole; that means you have to rinse out or replace your cartridge)
3. clean the two parts that hold the wheel; sometimes they get dirty
4. twist and spin the bio-wheel in clean tank water to get rid of any debris/food particles that might've built up on it
5. float your bio-wheel after turning the filter off. take out the intake tube and everything connected to it. rinse with water, especially the impeller. clean out any gunk trapped inside the intake.
6. flip the axes of the bio-wheel; that sometimes helps
