Biff Is Back !

Very nice ive really taken to chocs recently.
The pics are of the fish in its non stressed colour but the reason there different is because its a Hypselecara coryphaenoides not a Hypselecara temporalis like walkers101 and SDWalters.

I think you are spot on there kizno ! I wasn't aware that mine was coryphaenoides. THanks for that !

Yeah the stripe and spot looks like it to me. I only know because when i was doing a tapajos biotope i found there was 2 types one from tapajos and one now. The coryphaenoides stay smaller normally only getting 6-8" but some reach up to 10".

I am actually rather disappointed that he is coryphaenoides. I was hoping for him to grow into a 12" chunker with a great big flat face, and the colours of temporalis.
It seems a bit unfair on him but I am considering not keeping him for that reason, and getting a H.temporalis instead.

Its up to you but they do still grow into stunning colours
The adults should look like this once mature

I do get what you mean though fully grown temporalis look stunning. Or the other thing you could do is try and get a small groups of coryphaenoides and hopefully get a breeding pair.

That is a particularly beautiful adult in that link.
I'm not interested in breeding to be honest. I might just keep Biff and add another fish to the tank, something like a sev.

After further research, I am convinced that my fish is actually H.temporalis. The lateral spot shape is all wrong for coryphaenoides.
It would seem that H.temporalis has a number of different colour/pattern forms though. Mine is just a lighter version of H.temporalis.

I also beleive yours to be .temporalis.... As you have stated there are quite a few colour variations with chocolate cichlids, they are much like chameleon's with there colours, one minute mine will be like yours, the next minute it will be as dark as you like, then sometimes it will go a greenish sheen, the dark colouration is the most used with cadburys, but i have also seen mine like yours, but that seemed to be more when he was juvi, Either way a stunning specimen, i also beleive the ph has quite a bit to do with how they colour up.
