heya :)
the filter that comes with the 5.5g cube of mine doesnt seem to like doing its job  it hardley sucks anything in ( as in food that floats right past the intake) and you cannot feel anything coming out.
and as the tank is overstocked ( with assorted molly and gupy fry) id like your opinions on a better filter for me.
my budget is £20..
cheers :good:

oh ya and if i clean the filter out, it works good for about 12 hours or so.. and then returns to normal..so i dont think theres any helping it.

and anotehr thing,my local has a range of the fluval filters, so if one of them is good that would be ideal :) however if not i dont mind ordering or sumthing.

the fluval 1 reportadly can handle tanks up to 45l or 12 US gallons

which would seem perfect for your tank

what are your tank dimensions BTW?

its a foot cube tank.
thanks for reply, looks like ill be picking one up soon :)

I have a 55ltr (14.5 gallons) Hex tank with a fluval 2+ filter with an extra air intake and it works marvelously.

The extra air intake is a free optional extra. Meaning its a small attachment you add to the outflow pipe to suck in air to airiate the tank better. I only just added this because its a hex tank, and its quite deep so i've put the filter quite abit below the sruface so the current reachs the gravel, and my air filter might not be enough for my moors so i just plugged it in. Its pretty nifty.

And its just over your buget i think i paid £15.99 from pets at home for mine. this was over a year ago so it may have gone down. A little tip though if you buy the fluval 2+ or higher they will try and sell you polyester or carbon filter pads. You dont need these only if you wish to clear out medication/chemicals or loose particals. Otherwise the pads that it comes with work perfectly and your end up saving your self some money. The pads should be rinsed out once every one-two weeks and you only ever need to change one of the pads at a time every 3-6 months depending on how many inhabbitants are in the tank. Dont change both as the helpful bacteria that will eventually develope in the filter pads will be removed if you change both at the same time, were as if you change just the one at a time, the bacteria can spred from one to the other and develope again. You can also buy nutrafin but in my personal opionion its a waste of money, as the bacteria will naturally and for free ;) grow in the pads after a few weeks.

The fuval 1 or AquaOne mini should do but you may need to fit a spray bar to lessen the flow and watch the fry don't get sucked in  Fit a net over it???

I had the Eden 501 on my cube and it works brilliantly.
