hi, i bought a nice piece of bogwood/driftwood whatever it is . and after soaking it for a week or so, i put iit in my 24 litre tank with my ct, however its turned the water brown , i took it out and boiled it all christmas eve, and christmas day, and put it back in , its still turned the water brown , my question is, do cts like this brackish water , or should i sling it ,

the tannings do not harm the betta but if you wish to remove them quicker add some carbon to your filter (if you have one) this will help remove the tannings for you.

Brackish does not refer to the tannin staining you are experiencing. it is a measure of salinity. so it is doubtful that the bogwood/driftwood you introduced would alter the salt content of the water unless you picked it up off of some marine beach and did not properly condition it first. i wouldnt worry about the tannins as far as the fish goes, it is just a matter of aesthetics and some carbon should clear it up. :good:

oops sorry , got a bit mixed up there with the brackish bit , yes got a small filter , dont think theres enough room for carbon in it though, but as long as the ct is ok. that the main thing , its bound to fade out eventually , the tannin i mean not the ct lol, tks for your advice

the wood wont hurt the betta at all, in fact bettas come from areas where the water is naturaly stained from so many ial trees dropping leaves in the water.
