Is tap water safe for bettas? Will the chlorine damage them? Just wondering for water changes.

It's always best to use a reputable dechlorinator that removes heavy metals from the water as well as chlorine in fresh tank water. The chemicals in tap water aren't going to do your betta much good at all imho.

I stopped using dechlorinator over a yeaar ago and does no harm to be in tap water IME.

Shouldnt do them much harm but i have always used water safe stuff. which takes the nasty things out the water (or so they say)

It's for when I do water changes. Currently I've been keeping him in the tank and only changing a low percentage, but I've heard it's better to place them in a small bowl for any water change and especially large ones. So I was just wondering if I could fill a small container with tap water and put him in it while I change the tank water then place him back in later.

Thanks for the help so far.

Why not just take out some of the water from his tank and put it into a container for him? You're going to be taking water out anyway!

You don't need to remove the betta for water changes. Just watch what you're doing with the syphon and he won't get sucked up. Most will stay away from it anyway.

Don't put him into plain tapwater after taking him straight from the tank. Use the current tankwater in a cheap fishbowl, and cover the top with a book or something until you're done ( stop him jumping ) - if you really have to remove him for some reason.

Agreed, better safe than sorry but i never take my boy's out of the tanks whilst i change as far as i can see it doesnt stress them at all -_-

Depends what size of tank he's in?
I personally don't remove any of mine, but they are in big enough tanks to allow even 50% changes or more. It'll stress him out more taking him out if you can avoid it.
