Betta's Ideal Tank Height?

I under stand that Betta's like to come to the top of the water for air... what would be the best tank height that would enjoy living in?

If for example i had a height of 28"... 5" on bottom would be gravel... leaves me with 23", of this i will fill up to about 19/20" of water. So is a tank 20" suitable for betta? Thank You

i think a lot of people reccomend length as opposed to height, that way, they can swim the length of it, and not need to swim so much to reach the surface

As someone pointed out in your other thread, the height may be a bit of an issue.
I agree with Michelle, they prefer to have more length than height.

Well the length is 47" which should be ok then?

I was told if the tank is too tall, then the fish will have problems having to come to the top to get air?

When I bought my Betta I didn't realise he was the type of fish who needed to come up for air. My tank is tall, 60cm. I'm not sure what that is in inches, but the water is right up to my armpit to reach the bottom with the tips of my fingers. Anyway, My Betta still hangs out near the bottom of the tank most of the time during the day, coming up for air every now and then. At night he attaches himself to a plant halfway up the aquarium. That way he only has to go a shorter way up for air each time. He seems to be a very happy fish.

Yeah I don't think that generally height is much of a problem unless they're unwell and are struggling to find the energy to reach the top.

E.g. One of my betta tanks is probably 40cm or so tall, my boy was absolutely fine in it (and managed to float just under the surface somehow when he was sleeping) until he got sick once (to this day I'm still not sure what it was) and he was having trouble, so I put him in a large breeder net for him to rest in and he only had to go 10cm or so to the top. After a week when he was feeling better, out he came, and all has been fine since.
