my bettas are in the middle of mating now. they are wrapping up and she is dropping ...eggs? however they are not sphericle, more like odd shaped pieces. i take it this isnt normal, anyone got any info, also he is doing the same as her in that he is paralysed after each embrace, again is this normal. he is still chasing her away from time to time and her stomach is still huge so is this maybe just the start and there just getting to grips with it all?

Don't worry - if they are embracing and she is spawming then
they'll get the hang of things after a few go's.
The eggs are very small and white - she'llprobably only drop a
few at first - then increase in number as they get into it.
Best thing is keep an eye on them but don't interfere unless you need to ....
mainly to stop one getting seriously injured.
Sounds like everything is going well - Good Luck ! :good:

well following on from my 1st post she is now hiding away from him again and still has a huge stomach. i watched them for a while erlier today and she did not produce anything that looked like an egg. only whiteish bits. should i leave her with him? he is still going up to her then quikly back to his nest as if to get her to follow him, but she seems uninterested.

I think the whiteish bits are the eggs. From what I read that is what they look like. It's hard for us to see the shape of eggs because they are so small. But if he keeps going up to the nest most likely you have eggs in the nest congrats! :)

As for if you should keep her.. how long exactly have they been going at it? I'm no expert since I have my own post asking for some advice as well but I do know after a while it can become dangerous for the female. But if she has a lot of places to hide I'd think she would be ok a little while longer. But I dont know how to tell when there finished. As I said I'm no expert.

The eggs are that small it is hard to tell the shape of them to be honest (in my experience) check out my post 'successful spawn' it has a video of my 2 spawning and there is a picture of the eggs dropping. (the whiteish bits sound like eggs to me).
if you feel the female is in danger of the male now then i would remove her. The male gets very aggressive once they have spawned.
In a few days you never no you might have fry if the male is constantly at the nest.
I didn't notice a difference in my females stomach and if i never caught them in the act i would never have known that they spawned.
Good luck :)

well they have been in the tank together now since saturady, i dont think they managed it. he is still increasing his nest and she is lurking around in the leaves at the bottom of the tank. he doesnt seem to be guarding his nest just building it. she is still swollen so i am not very hopefull.would a water change help? cooler or warmer. temp fluctuates in the tank between 25 and 28. could this be a problem?

I would remove the female and leave the male with the nest. Building it bigger is a good sign.
The temperature should he stabilised to prevent the nest breaking up, around 28.
My opinion :) but I guess see what others say :)

i have removed her. i dont think theyve produced anything viable though, do you think it will harm her not to be mated even though i think she is still full of eggs?

here she is. see what i mean by big stomach, is this amount of fin damage normal? could her large stomach be an indication of anything else. she eats and swims normal, she just looks abnormally large to me.

I'm sorry I can't help with the size of the stomach, hopefully someone else will :( I have never seen one that big.
Damage is pretty bad but will grow back easy enough with the right care and clean water

her white tubr sticks out alot and wenever she goes in with the male her verticle lines show after minutes. dont know if the problem is him or her. when shese well again im going to try her with a blue/black ct and see what happens. i no there not a pair but its just helps me decide who isnt doing what they should be. could it be internal parasite? she is happy and active

i dont think you can strip bettas but she could be egg bound? but i think you took her out too soon if she went hiding then she wasnt happy with him :good: good luck with her try some peas just incase she is constipated as well

found this hopeit helps
