ok, another betta tankmates question:

Will bettas be okay with dainos? like glo-fish zebra danios?

I think they'll be fine. I have white clouds with my betta. He was a little annoyed when I first introduced them but he doesn't seem to mind anymore. When I bought my white clouds, in the tank next to them there were glofish in with a male betta. He was fine in there =)

NO. Danios are fast shoaling fish who will not only stress a betta with their darting about, but are very well known for being fin nippers. If you already have the betta, he may take the addition of Danios as an intrusion on his territory and attack them.

There's always someone who has a placid betta and has made it work in some way, but these are not to be taken as the normality. One or two people making it work does not mean it works as a general principle.

Male Bettas are, on the whole not community fish. They are called fighting fish for a reason and the name does not only extend to just other male bettas. Tank mates are not a necessity and often not worth the risk.

Also, if your tank is less than 10 gallons you have no space for any tankmates other than shrimp. Danios in particular are active fish and actually require more than 10 gallons and a group of at least 8.

NOPE!!
If you want a betta you should be prepaired to keep them on their own!!!

This way they are most happy! They are solitary fish!!!

Just because some people keep them with other fish does not mean they are happy or thriving just surviving!

And also platys are very boisterous fish whereas a betta doesnt like a lot of fast movements!!

The only thing I keep with some males is an apple snail!!

I must disagree with your rather broad statement Soph_betta. I have known many people who do not allow their bettas to be with other fish but I have never understood it. I have some aging bettas that have been housed with other fish all of their life. They are social animals, just as much as a guppy or a molly would be. They don't tend to school like you would see with so many of the tetras, but they are good pleasant members of the community in peaceful tanks. I do not place them with nippy tank mates but I have kept both of them for years at a time in my endler tanks. Endlers are very energetic compared to a typical slow paced platy, but they are not fin nippers and the males do fine with them. Both are well over 5 years old and only spent any time alone before I got them. I consider it cruel to deprive my bettas of company and make them live as hermits. They each live in heavily populated tanks and just take their place in the tank like any other community fish. I do not try to ever house two bettas together because they have a definite problem living peacefully with each other, but they are far from loners.

I agree with oldman, they are social animals. but anyways I'v decided to get corys (3?) oh and its a 10 gallon tank.

Also, if your tank is less than 10 gallons you have no space for any tankmates other than shrimp.

only shrimp? hmmm...

Only shrimp if the tank is less than ten gals. In a 5 gal tank you can really just get away with the betta and shrimp only.

Since yours is 10 gals 4 peppered or 6-8 pygmy cories will be fine.

I agree with oldman on the Endlers. They are quick, but they are not nippy fish and small enough that you could have a group of about 6 in a planted 10 gal with a betta. You could also try micro rasboros. Chilli rasboros could work. I haven't been able to get them here so I haven't been able to try them myself but I would like to as they are pretty little things.

I have Zebra Danios,Neons,Harliquins and Cherry Barbs with my Betta and they get on fine but then again my tanks overgrown so my Betta has loads of hiding places even though when i first got him he killed my Guppy by trying to eat it Poor thing ....
