Hello. I have a 2.5 gallon tank. It has a small filter (low current), java ferns, small bridge and a snail. Not to mention my male betta.

I was wondering if the tank would be too crowded if i added a small spotted cory (or two, I've read that they are happier with more than one).

And just on a whim, along with the cory(s), if they are ok, would an africa dwarf be too much?

Any input would be wonderful! :)

Products I use are aquarium salt, amquel and novaqua.

2.5g is too small to add cories and too small to have a betta and a snail, snails produce a lot of waste for their size.

I agree with Zoe. Cories are better in groups and 2.5G is far too small.

should i get rid of the snail? the people told me that they would /help/ with waste...guess not :p

They produce more waste than you think. If you get a 5g tank you can keep the snail. If you want cories get a 10g

Hm, I'm in a dorm, and don't quite have room for a 5gal.

So I should a find a different home for the snail I think.

Are there any bottom feeders/algae eaters that I could keep in my tank? Or no?

Sadly the same again your tank is too small for any. If you keep up with water changes I think you can keep the snail

I got the snail because I was under the impression that they were beneficial to the water quality/tank conditions. If its harmful, or doesn't benefit it at all, I am going to bring it back.

I wouldn't say a snail is "beneficial" to the aquarium, in your case. Its just like having another fish, you have to feed it and it poops. But in this case a lot, like maybe 3x as much as your average betta. They may lightly graze on aglea and pick up a few scraps of leftovers from your betta but in the end they still poop it out, it doesn't get rid of it.

maybe you could get a couple of ghost shrimp, they're scavengers and they'll catch the excess food and algae. plus they don't need much room

a 2.5gallon is wey too small to add cories.5 gallons dont take up that much room and belive it or not, are easier to look after. a betta will live in the 5g with a few ottos. and maybe even the snail can stay.a 2.5g isnt enough room to add anymore fish, are you filtering and heating your tank?
