hello,

i'm new to raising bettas as well as new to this forum.

About a few days ago I bought a red Crown Betta fish, and it looks perfectly fine. It's acting weird though. Today it tried to jump out of the water, and also it doesn't swim swiftly... it darts from place to place making moves as if it was paranoid or something... everytime i try to feed it, it doesn't come to the top like other bettas, it swims to the bottom and tries to hide... it takes him a while to eat too, but he does.

is that normal behavior? something wrong with him?

Also about a week ago i bought a betta fish as well, when i first got it its fins we're very shiny and bright green, but now that i look at it, its fading away.. its not that shiny no more... its kind of turning pale and has paley red streaks? yeah i read that if they were depressed or scared then their colors might fade, but he's eating just fine and everytime i put my finger above the tank he swims right up and isn't scared, so i'm pretty sure he's not depressed nor scared.. whats wrong with him.. is it fin rot?

i dont know about the second betta

but the first one is probably just scared and trying to get used to everything

some bettas dont eat right away takes a few days for them to get settled in :)

one of my bettas wouldnt eat for a week but he's perfectly fine now

*welcome to the forums*

first fish is just stressed and scared..has he got somewhere to hide? be very gentle with him.. feed him tiny bits and several times a day. he will soon realise that the giant eyeballs in the sky mean food and not fear!

second one sounds ill I know goldfish get read streaks with water temp. change but not sure about bettas! get thread back to top of posts and perhaps someone who knows more will reply.
:good:

The second might be finrot. My unnamed boy's finrot presented as a loss in color, and then the top half of his tail fin just literally fell to pieces. It was nasty, and it happened all within 24 hours, so keep a close eye on him. If his fins start to decay, treat with Melafix.
