Well, I went to the LFS today to get some more silk plants and "kinda" in seach of a marble Betta to fill my empty 2 gallon tank.

I was very surprised to see they had a very large supply of marbles, and most their betta's looked great. Some were even bubble nesting in their small jars. So, I picked up a very pretty teal/red/white marble, whom I will post pictures of later.

As I was searching around I noticed WAY in the back this very sad looking blue guy. I picked him up and noticed his fins were severely clamped and upon further inspection had a bad case of Ich and looks like Fin Rot. Of course all I could think about was this poor guy dying here alone, so I bought him. :S

Currently, I am floating him in a "hospital" tank with fresh clean water and aquarium salt.... The LFS didn't seem to have anything but Melafix, have you guys heard of this, and is it any good??

Here is a picture of the poor little dude:

Good luck hope he pulls through for you, she inspires us all.

YAY!
You rescued him!! He's so lucky!!

BEWARE of the MelaFix - you must use it in 1/5 the strength that it says on the bottle or it can kill a betta.

Hmm... for the finrot, i'd probably get him in some clean water and watch him for a few days. what size tank will he be going into?

for the ick, you'll want to treat him right away - something like maracide or any ick meds will work.. Do you have anything like that?

Yay, i'm so excited you brought him home. i bet he is too.
My heart breaks when I think of all the poor little guys who DON'T get brought home and die all alone. :/

I didn't buy the MelaFix, I wasn't sure about it. Figured I'd ask here then if I had to I could go back to the LFS and get it.

He's going into a 1/2 gallon Kritter Keeper for the moment, he has problems getting to the surface for air, so I think this will work well.

I have some Jungle Fungus Eliminator.... Ever used it? It says to add 1 teaspoon for every 5 gallons, how much you think I should add?

THANKS! I hope he pulls though too! I gave the LFS alot of crap about him while they were bagging him.

Good for you!
For checking about the MelaFix AND for giving them crap for him!
If he's having troubles getting to the top for air, I'd get him a plant that floats on top - like hornwort - they LOVE to lay in them up near the top. Jasper loved it when I put that in his tank. It helps them stay up on the top so they don't have far to go for air.

Maybe you already know that tho :)
Petsmart or the lfs should have some!

I haven't used the fungus eliminator, but a lot of people have and they seem to really like it. Hmm - 1 teaspoon for 5 gallons - 1 tsp = 5 ml, so if 5ml is for 5 gallons, then 1/2 ml would be for 1/2 gallon container, right?
Can you swing over to a drugstore or walmart or something? In the drugs aisle, they will have one of those little medicine eyedropper thingys. get one of those and use 1/2 ml. Unless someone smarter than me comes along (which is VERLY likely to happen lol) and tells you to do something different.

If I had that boy in my care, I'd get him in the clean water w/some salt and give him about 2 days on the finrot. If you notice it not starting to get better and some clear growth starting to come in, then you'll want to get him something stronger, like Maracyn.

For the ick (I don't see any on him in the pic, maybe i just can't see it???) you'll want to treat for that asap - does the fungus eliminator treat for that? And you'll wanna bring up the temp if you can. Possibly with a small heating pad sandwiched between a couple layers of towels or something - just monitor his temp. 82 degrees would be best.

Okay, I'll see if I can run to Wal-Mart here in a little while.

He's in the tank now with aquarium salt, I'm thinking I might place his tank on a heating pad and watch it closely.

Thanks so much!!!!!!!!!!

Here he is all set in his little hospital tank with a heating pad underneath him:

Don't say that, it makes me think about how big my sig will be after I update it with my new boys :look:

Good job on the rescue, Kara! He looks like he needs some TLC, and is lucky you found him
