My betta has started this growing something about two weeks ago, on his head, right between his eyes. He has since gotten worse, as you can see from the pictures below. I have tried treating him using the BettaFix Remedy, however he seems to not be getting better. He eats normally and is alwasy activily swimming around. Whenever I come up to his tank he swims over to say hi. He has always lived alone, and never been with any other fish. Any information or help as to wait this is or what I could do about it would be greatly appreciated!!!! Here are some pictures below.

that looks like the tumour my goldfish has.
theres not much you can do I am afraid. I have tried various meds to no avail. I hope someone else can offer help. :good:

taken from the Betta FAQ

Tumors

There are 2 types of tumors. The Benign and Cancerous tumor.

Symptoms: The benign tumour will have something that looks like an infection around it. A Cancerous tumour will keep growing and some scales around the area will protrude when it grows big enough.

Treatment: Sadly no cure. Either euthanise the fish reccomended or let it live in agony for its remaing days.

If the fish is acting normally I would just let it get on with its life for the time being.

Thanks for all the help guys! I really appreciate it! One other question though? What would be my choices for euthanizing my fish??

If he gets to the point where you need to, either clove oil or cutting his head off/peircing the brain. Its not nice, but sometimes you have to.

I had a problem with euthanising a fish and clove oil was recommended to me. you can get it from your chemist for only a few pounds you just add it to a small container with a lid. add about 20 drops to enough water to completely cover your fish. put the lid on and shake well ad your fish to it and then check in about 10 minutes add more clove oil if you aren't sure if its dead yet. clove oil absolutely stinks but it works well and I found it to be humane for the fish and for yourself as I couldn't bring myself to cut his head off or pierce his brain.

sorry about your fish its awful when this sort of thing happens hope he's ok!!!

Kind of a littlebit of topic, im not sure if is me just looking at fish more than other animals, but why are fish more prone to illness than say a dog or cat? Is it because we keep them in well enough conditions as we keep other pets? This is in no way a dig at the o.p i myself am havingproblems with some bacterial infections ATM. It just seems to me that a partof fish keeping is knowing eventually that your goin to get sick fish... be it your fault or the place you bought your fish from fault ... and it sucks.
Hope everything goes ok mate let us know.

If you read the posts before mine you will notice that its not off the topic it was following the route of the thread *Fishkies* was asking about euthanasia and I was only giving abit of advice that I have gained previously off this forum to help her with her dilema.

Is ok Apology accepted!!!

Thanks for all the advice so far ya all! It's great to be able to rely on this forum like this! I'll be sure to try and keep you posted and let you know how he's doing!

The easiest and less painfull way to euathanase a fish is to put it in a damp piece of cloth then hit its head off something solid, dies instantly.

The only problem with that way is that most of us are too squemish to do that when I think of doing that it makes me retch could never do it!!!!
