Ammonia = 0
Nitrite = 0
Nitrate = 5-10

pH = 7.8

Tank = 3 gallons

Tank Inhabitants = Orion (male betta) and pest snails.

Symptons = hardly moving, sort of drifting around the tank or resting. Keeps slipping between objects (rocks, caves, plants) and just lying there. Shallow, labored breathing, if there is such a thing in fish. Hardly reacts to me or his environment. Showed a vague interest in food but didn't eat anything. I keep finding him lying on the floor.

No obvious signs of disease - no fungus, spots, loss of colouration, etc. Seems to have lost the back end of his caudal, but doesn't look like rot as the 'cut' is clean and not at all discoloured. Not sure how he could have done it though, there is nothing that could damage his fins in the tank, so I'm stumped.

Usually quite active, flaring readily and eating like a horse. He has, however, not really gained weight since we have had him, despite eating well.

He's really scaring me, guys.

it sounds bacterial.
Does he look thin, or have a sunken in belly.
What does it look like when he goes to the toilet.

Does he look bloated.

Not seen him got to the toilet, but I've not been able to watch him constantly.

His belly doesn't look sunken, but he has always been on the thin side. He doesn't look bloated.

If he thin and eats well it can be a sign of old age, bacteria infection, internal parasites.

I would add a bacterial med. Keep a look out for when he goes to the toilet.
Try some shelled peas also to flush him throw.

Thanks :good:

He's not interested in food right now but I'll get some pea down him as soon as he'll take it.

Will add meds when I get some.

Ok.
Try soaking his food in garlic juice as it meant to boost the immune system and appetite.

How do I get garlic juice? Just crush/squeeze some garlic cloves?

There was something poo-shaped in his tank this morning, but it was white. Don't think it could have been anything other than a poo, but I'm sure white isn't a good colour!

I have some Myxazin, would that be an OK antibacterial med to use?

Would it be sensible to raise tank temp. a little bit? It's at 27 degrees C atm.

Anti internal bacteria med by interpet with be better.
Long stringy white poo can be consitipation bacterial infection, internal parasites.

Don't raise the temp.

Yep, it sounds like internal parasites in the digestive tract, feed him medicated food which would be very effective!

What kind of medicated food? Can I make it myself by soaking pellets in meds, or do I need to buy it? Not seen it in my area =(

Left temperature where it is, thanks Wilder.

He seems to have perked up a bit today - fins less clamped and moving around more. Bought some peas so about to give him some. Will see if I can find some of that anti-bac stuff.
