I've got my VT Charlie in a US 5 gallon by himself and I introduced a decently sized apple snail today. He will NOT leave it alone. I haven't noticed him picking or pecking at the snail, but he "hovers" and sits next to it constantly. Every time the snail even opens his shell, Charlie is right there, causing him to seal up again. I'm really upset and frustrated. Will this pass? Should I remove Charlie? Have any of you successfully kept bettas with snails? This is what he does:

My 2 males are in with 2 apple snails each and they don't care about them.

I had one in with baby apple snails and he didn't even bat (a metaphorical) eye lid at them.

So long as he isn't picking on it then I'll be ok; he's probably just curious.

I have rabbit snails too and when I first introduced the bigger ones to both of my males they did try to see if they were edible a few times and after trying to eat them about 3 times they've just left them alone. It's if they constantly try to attack it then you need to worry :(

You will find he will be fascinated with it for a little while but that will pass. I have apple snails in every tank and each time i add a new betta they pay attention to them for a while but get bored rather quickly

charlie is beautiful, mebbe you want to rehome him n keep the snail? *raises hand to volunteer* lol j/k

as i said beautiful fish :)

i never had a snail with my betta so i can't really say but i think he's just curious...

Lovely fish and he's probably never seen a snail before. Instinct tells him if moves then it may be edible. Just keep an eye on the two of them. Im sure he will get bored when he finds out the part he wants to eat is attached to the bigger part of this strange thing. But if in doubt take it out  Have you got another tank you can put your snail in ?

Yes, but I want him in there with Charlie. Charlie already seems to be losing interest, the stubborn little devil. The snail (Poppet, if you're curious) moved last night but is shut tightly into his shell today. I'm hoping he isn't being bullied while I'm not watching.

Well, that's that. I caught Charlie attacking Poppet when he had his shell cracked open, so that is officially a snail tank and Charlie has been relegated to the tank in the kitchen where he will live alone.
